On the death of Steve Jobs

On the death of Steve Jobs, January 17, 2011

A short comment contextualizing the prediction could go right here

The big news is that Steve Jobs is taking a medical leave of absence from Apple effective today. Apple is a juggernaut with seemingly no clear path to falling from power, but the death or debilitation of Steve Jobs would be at the top of their vulnerability list. Jobs has a long history of successfully battling cancer, so assuming that is again the problem he would be dealing with, statistically he has a good chance to overcome it and keep Apple on track. Still, if he does not overcome his current health maladies it really throws a spanner in the works for Apple. He has created the Apple empire around his prodigious vision and enormous ego, reshaping Apple to continue forward on the same relentless trajectory would be non-trivial. Friends and former employees of mine work at Apple, not to mention they are a former client. I know the culture and process well, and as of today, a healthy Steve Jobs is absolutely essential to how their entire product organization operates. This is a story to watch. In the meantime, best to Steve and his family.
